When North Dakota Farmers Union (NDFU) decided to grow their brand by opening a farmer-owned restaurant where diners could enjoy food grown, raised, and harvested on American family farms, they turned to restaurateurs Michael Vucurevich and Dan Simons. Together they developed the brand concept, and in 2008, the first Founding Farmers restaurant opened in our nation’s capital. With the success of their Washington D.C. outpost, Founding Farmers has continued to flourish and has since opened restaurants in Montgomery County, MD and Tysons, VA, with more to come, as well as sister restaurants Farmers Fishers Bakers and Farmers & Distillers.
The foundation of Founding Farmers will remain: rooted in the belief that the American farmer is the bedrock of our great country. Our restaurants are owned by more than 42,000 family farmers of NDFU and is supplied by hundreds of family farms from around the country. What sets Founding Farmers apart is that all the food served in our restaurants is made from scratch, in-house every day. We bake our own bread, grind our own beef, make our own pastas and desserts, even churn our own butter. The menus we’ve created are inspired by America’s rich culinary tradition, including our own unique takes on all-American classics. Not only do we care about the American farmer, we also care deeply for the environment which is why we strive to be as green as possible. We take great pride in the fact that all of our restaurants are certified by the Green Restaurant Association and that we are committed to continually seek new and innovative ways to improve and increase our sustainability efforts. Most importantly, our prices are affordable and our doors are open to all!
