Eddy the Turtle Runs with the Presidents at Nats Park
Eddy the Turtle, mascot for Our Last Straw, had a big night on Tuesday. He got to join in on a great hometown tradition, The Presidents Race at Nationals Park, home of the Washington Nationals. He also got to tell them all about eliminating plastic straws across our nation’s capital, and beyond.
Smack dab in the middle of the fourth inning, our very own Eddy could be seen getting into racing mode on the Nats Park field, looking larger than life for all to see up on the stadium jumbotrons, yet much smaller than the big-headed mascots of our former presidents.
A professional video straight from the Nationals organization is coming soon, but in the meantime, you can peep some of the night’s festivities and excitement on the video we’ve posted on Our Last Straw’s Facebook page.
So, who was inside the suit, you ask? None other than our very own Meaghan O’Shea, Vice President of Marketing & Communications. Many from our FRG marketing team and Our Last Straw were there to cheer Eddy on, as well as walk the stands and host our information table talking to Nationals and White Socks fans about eliminating plastic straws and other single-use plastics. And, of course, talking up the Our Last Straw pledge to #StopSucking.
Nationals Park is the nation’s first major professional stadium to become LEED Silver Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council. In addition to many green practices, Nationals Park provides special lids on souvenir cups instead of straws and uses paper straws in compliance with DC’s ban on plastic straws.
