Farmers Restaurant Group Goes Fishing

Vicki Griffith, our Vice President for Quality Assurance & Purchasing, led a group of our chefs and other team members from across the company to Stevensville, MD for the 7th Annual Congressional Seafood’s FINvitational. Our crew boarded the “Dawn Marie,” led by Captain Jon Motovidlak, and spent the day fishing on the Chesapeake Bay.

Team FRG took 3rd place in the tournament with a 31-inch Chesapeake Bay Rockfish. Chef Oscar Rivera of Founding Farmers DC was the angler responsible for reeling in the award-winning fish. Also joining the field trip was: Chef Jon Capo from Founding Farmers Tysons; Chef Richard Torres from Farmers & Distillers; Executive Kitchen Manager Alba Marroquin from Founding Farmers DC; and Chef Eric Levine also from Founding Farmers DC.

Now, when we serve rockfish as our fish of the day, we are much better acquainted with where, and how, it is caught.

The purpose of the field trip was to get better acquainted with our fisherman, suppliers, and the waterways around our home. The team also connected with many local vendors, including the primary supplier for all of our seafood and our host for the day, Congressional Seafood Co. They also learned about the bay and its preservation from a number of participating organizations.
