Let the Sunflowers Shine In

Summertime at Founding Farmers Tysons means we are basking in the golden blaze of sunflowers.

Every year, we are delighted by bountiful bouquets from our partner, Sweet Virginia, a non-profit organization on a mission to inspire and educate children about the wonder of honey bees and the critical role they play in pollinating fruits and vegetables, as well as the overall positive impact they have on our environment.

In keeping with their mission, Sweet Virginia grows a vast array of flowers to support the bee colonies that live on their land, including colorful beds of zinnias and vast fields of joyful sunflowers.

Farmers Restaurant Group has been working closely with Sweet Virginia Founder Dan Price and his team for several years. We share a passion for educating people, including children, about honey bees and working to support their future. (We also support an urban apiary at George Washington University to promote the study of honey bees.)

Our partnership with Sweet Virginia recently took us on a field trip to a DC school to teach children about the importance of honey bees and their life cycle. Co-Owner Dan Simons and his family also spent a gorgeous night at Sweet Virginia in Nokesville, VA over the July 4th holiday weekend and were delighted by the abundance of blooming flowers, including sunflowers, and the sweet simplicity of downtime in the country.

As a company, sunflower season is one of our favorites. We look forward to receiving over 100 freshly harvested, beautiful sunflowers. This brings quite a bit of cheer to our Tysons restaurant. It is also a natural fit since many of our farmer owners come from North Dakota, currently the nation’s largest sunflower producer.

It is definitely a good time to come on over to Founding Farmers Tysons. Let the sunflowers shine in and get a little hit of summer (without the heavy heat), show your honey bee love, and enjoy our summertime country vibes.
